While microneedling is both very safe and very minimally invasive, there are some things you should consider before treatment.  If you are or have taken Accutane, have a skin infection, have a significant skin disease like psoriasis, you’re taking anticoagulants, are pregnant, or undergoing chemotherapy, microneedling is contraindicated.  The treatment is effectively a very controlled and specific stress to the skin that makes it healthier in the long run. If you have a compromised immune system, your blood doesn’t clot, or you have difficulty healing from minor, superficial skin damage, microneedling is not a good choice for you.

Do not wear makeup on the day of treatment.

Any topical products used on the skin, such as acne creams or pigment control creams, should not be used on the day of or the day after treatment.

Stop any Retinols or Tretinoin 1 week prior to treatment.

Excess hair may need to be shaved the night prior. Men should be cleanly shaved.

In addition, you should not do any sun-tanning or self-tanners prior to treatment. This includes spray tans, tanning lotions, tanning beds, or extended sun exposure. Avoid treatments that may irritate the skin for 1-2 weeks prior to treatment (waxing, depilatories, etc.)
